Workforce Development

Developing Innovative Workforce Solutions

Time and again, companies locating in Silicon Valley cite the quality of the workforce as the key factor in their location decision.

In an economy as dynamic as Silicon Valley, the quality and flexibility of the workforce is critical to business success. Over the years we have built a workforce development infrastructure that makes it easy for entrepreneurs to find workers with the skills they need, and for workers to find and get the training they need to move from one industry to the another as the Valley’s industry clusters adapt to global economic forces.

Workforce Investment Board (WIB)

Under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, the regional catalyst that shapes and influences the workforce investment system is the Workforce Investment Board (WIB). The WIB provides policy and oversight responsibility for a geographical area. Board members include volunteer representatives from business and industry, organized labor, education and training agencies, employment services, local government, and community support organizations.

One-Stop

To ensure that the workforce system is market-driven, the WIB works as a "One-Stop" to deliver customer-focused workforce solutions through a seamless collaboration of partner organizations. W hether a company employs two or 2,000, businesses can access a variety of services through their local One-Stop:

  • Staffing and Recruitment
  • Employee Training and Retention
